Long sunshine filled days, ideal temperatures and starry nights are just a few perks of summer in Waupaca.
Day 1: After a leisurely breakfast head out to play 18-holes at one of several area golf courses all within a short drive, such as Cedar Springs Golf Course, Glacier Wood Golf Club, Hidden Waters Golf Course or Royal Oaks Golf Resort. With a variety of courses, each offers a unique opportunity for play from 18-hole championship courses to a 9-hole executive style. In the evening enjoy dinner and take in the beautiful sunset on the deck of Clear Water Harbor overlooking Taylor Lake.
Day 2: With a variety of events happening throughout the summer in the Waupaca Area, you’re sure to find one featured during your stay. Take part in such events as the Iola Old Car Show, the Waupaca Area Triathlon, Hometown Day Celebration or Strawberry Fest. While enjoying the events you may also be inclined to take in some of the history of the area at the Hutchinson House in Waupaca’s South Park, a tour of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King or a self-guided tour of the historic Yankee Village of Rural. For dinner, enjoy The Wheel House Restaurant famous for their pizza, pastas and sandwiches. Save room for an ice cream cone from Scoopers right next door.
Day 3: Head out to explore the Chain O’ Lakes on the pontoon you’ve rented from one of several area marinas such as Amherst Marine, Anchor Point Marina, Becker Marine or Taylor Lake Marine. If you prefer the quieter side of the Chain, pick up a kayak to take you into the Upper Chain, featuring four non-motorized lakes surrounded by the natural beauty of towering pines and marvel at the aqua-marine, crystal clear waters. If you’re feeling more adventurous, paddle the Wolf or Embarrass Rivers and rent a kayak or canoe from Wolf River Paddle Sports or at Adventure Outfitters they offer trips down the Waupaca and Crystal River. In the evening, grill out along the lake after stopping by Niemuth’s Steak and Chop Shop for fresh streaks, seafood and all the trimmings.
Day 4: Make the short drive to the quaint village of Iola to the Iola Historical Society and take in hundreds of historic relics from Iola’s Swiss and Norwegian heritages that are preserved and captured at the Historic Village and Museum complex. Enjoy lunch at The Millstone of Iola Mills, featuring casual dining, locally brewed beer and an espresso bar. Save room for a delicious piece of pie at the Crystal Cafe of Iola.
